Meet Deborah (Dheva) Liebman, MA, LPC

Owner of Here Within Counseling, PLLC and Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas.

Counseling has always been a calling of mine, going as far back as early adolescence. I was that friend who would provide heartfelt listening and compassionate feedback when those closest to me were going through distressing times. Growing up with mental illness in my family also had a huge impact on my own mental health and laid the groundwork for me becoming highly attuned to the emotional states of others. I was lucky enough to have parents who recognized my empathic and sensitive nature, and brought me to therapy at an early age.

Life is not a clear and straight path for most of us and I have been no exception. It took me nearly 15 years after graduating from college before making the choice to pursue my master’s degree. While I knew for certain I wanted to work directly with people, I often felt lost and somewhat dissatisfied by the roles I was serving in. It was through my own therapy that I began to build more confidence about my innate gifts and gained the clarity to pursue a career in counseling.

My approach is relational, existential, and depth-oriented.

What that means is, I get very curious about your early experiences and relationships, and how these may be influencing your current conscious and unconscious mental, emotional and behavioral habits.

My intent is to assist you in discovering what has been hidden from your consciousness or what has been too scary to make contact with, as well as what motivates your choices, emotional responses, behaviors and ways of relating to others.

I utilize and integrate various therapeutic tools in my practice based on the individual needs of my clients. While we will do plenty of what is known as “talk therapy”, I may at times invite you to pay attention to your body and incorporate practices to help you discover parts of yourself that have been “exiled” into your subconscious, tend to unprocessed psychological pain and confront existential concerns.
